Description: The Hendra virus (HeV) is a zoonotic pathogen that primarily affects horses. The first recorded cases of HeV infection in horses occurred sporadically between 1994 and 2010, with the virus being transmitted from flying-foxes, which serve as the natural reservoir for the virus in Australia. Occasionally, humans were also infected after coming into contact with affected horses.
