Description: Human S100A9, also known as MRP-14, Calgranulin-B or p14, belongs to the S100 family of calcium-binding proteins with EF hand domains and has a molecular weight of about 14 kD. The protein consists of 114 amino acids and its basic structural units are: an N-terminal helix region, an EF hand calcium-binding region, two helix regions, a second EF hand calcium-binding region, and two additional helix regions. S100A9 usually forms a heterodimer with S100A8 through non-covalent bonding. In the presence of calcium, the S100A8/S100A9 dimer can form a tetramer. During acute and chronic inflammation, S100A9 is expressed in neutrophils, monocytes, and macrophages, so it can be used as an inflammatory marker. The similarity between human S100A9 and mouse or rat S100A9 is 62% and 57%, respectively.
