Description:
The vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) family belongs to the platelet-derived growth factor superfamily, which is the most important member, mainly including VEGF-A, VEGF-B, VEGF-C, VEGF-D and VEGF-e. VEGF is a thermostable molecule with a relative molecular weight of 34-46kd. Its sequence is highly conserved. The bioactive dimer is composed of glycoprotein monomers with disulfide bonds. VEGF is a potent growth and angiogenesis cytokine. Stimulate endothelial cell proliferation and survival, promote angiogenesis and vascular permeability. VEGF is expressed in vascular tissues and plays an important role in normal and pathological angiogenesis. A large number of evidences have shown the induction of VEGF in tumor metastasis and intraocular neovascular syndrome.
