Description: Human Placental Growth Factor (hPLGF) is a protein that is produced by the placenta during pregnancy. It is involved in the regulation of blood vessel growth and remodeling, which is necessary for the development and maintenance of the placenta and fetus. hPLGF is produced in two forms: free hPLGF and hPLGF bound to heparin-binding proteins. Free hPLGF can bind to receptors on endothelial cells and stimulate the growth and migration of new blood vessels, while hPLGF bound to heparin-binding proteins can bind to heparin-binding proteins on the surface of endothelial cells and promote the formation of new blood vessels. hPLGF levels are increased in pregnancy, particularly during the third trimester. This is thought to be due to the increased need for blood vessel growth and remodeling in support of the developing fetus. However, elevated levels of hPLGF have also been associated with various health conditions, including preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
