Description:
CD38 is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein with ectoenzyme function, which is lowly expressed on plasma cells and other lymphoid and myeloid cell populations. On the one hand, as an immune cell receptor, it plays a role in cell migration regulation, signal transduction and receptor-mediated adhesion; on the other hand, CD38 acts as an extracellular enzyme, catalyzing the metabolism of two different calcium messengers (cADPR and NAADP), affecting cell growth, immunosuppression and other functions. Based on the fact that CD38 is highly and uniformly expressed on malignant tumor cells in 80-100% of MM patients, it is a good target for new treatment strategies. Antibody drugs bind to CD38 expressed on MM cells, and can induce tumor cell apoptosis through complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC), antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) and antibody-dependent cellular phagocytosis (ADCP), apoptosis, Fcγ receptors and other immune-related mechanisms.
