Description: Vaccinia virus (VACV) is the live vaccine used to eradicate smallpox and is currently being used to immunize at-risk populations against monkeypox virus (MPXV). For almost two centuries, VACV was employed to provide cross-protection against variola virus, the causative agent of smallpox, until the disease was eradicated in the late 1970s. VACV/A33R is a type II membrane glycoprotein with signal peptide and forms a homodimer outside EEV.
