Description: Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV), also known as Feline Parvovirus, belongs to the Parvoviridae family. FPV infection in cats causes severe gastrointestinal and systemic diseases. The incubation period ranges from 2 to 9 days, and the clinical symptoms are related to age and viral virulence. In young cats, the disease often presents acutely with a body temperature above 40°C, vomiting, and many cats do not show any symptoms but suddenly die after infection. Cats over six months old usually present with subacute clinical symptoms, mainly characterized by a biphasic fever pattern. Sick cats exhibit lethargy, anorexia, persistent vomiting, yellow-greenish vomit, sticky secretions in the mouth, eyes, and nose, and sticky feces that later become bloody, severe dehydration, and anemia. Canine Parvovirus (CPV), which is a subtype of FPV, was derived from FPV through a "host range mutation." Initially mutated CPV did not infect cats, but it quickly evolved into CPV-2, which regained the ability to infect cats after a series of mutations. Studies have shown that 95% of feline panleukopenia is caused by FPV, while 5% is caused by CPV.
