Description: Yersinia pestis is a Gram negative bacterium listed as a category A infective agent that causes bubonic, septicemic, and pneumonic plague. The latter form is of special interest to biodefense, as it is highly lethal and transmitted through aerosol. Fraction 1 (F1) is the main surface antigen of Y. pestis and an important determinant of its virulence.
