Description:
CD257, also known as BAFF, is a crucial B cell survival factor and a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) ligand family. It exists in two forms: soluble and membrane-bound. BAFF is expressed on various cell types, including monocytes, dendritic cells, and bone marrow stromal cells. There are three receptors for BAFF: TNFRSF13B/TACI (transmembrane activator and calcium modulator and cyclophilin ligand interactor), TNFRSF17/BCMA (B cell maturation antigen), and TNFRSF13C/BAFFR (B cell activation factor receptor). BAFF plays a key role in supporting B cell survival and proliferation, regulating class switching recombination, and selecting autoimmune B cells by binding to its receptors. In addition, some studies have found that BAFF can also promote T cell activation, proliferation, and differentiation.
