Description: Astrovirus (AstV) was first discovered in a outbreak of acute diarrhea in humans in 1975. In addition to human, astrovirus is widely distributed in birds and other mammals. Human astrovirus is one of the major pathogens causing gastroenteritis in infants and young children worldwide. Astrovirus is non-enveloped RNA viruses with a single-stranded positive-stranded RNA genome. Their ORF2 encodes three major structural proteins, VP26, VP29, and VP32, of which VP26 is the strongest antigen and immunogenic protein of astrovirus.
