Description: Mouse norovirus is one of the commonly prevalent pathogens in laboratory mice worldwide. Similar to human norovirus, mouse norovirus is non-enveloped and has a positive-stranded single-stranded RNA genome, belonging to the Caliciviridae family. The genomic structure of mouse norovirus is basically identical to that of human norovirus, both being transmitted through fecal-oral routes and causing gastroenteritis. Human norovirus is the major causative agent of non-bacterial gastroenteritis in humans globally. Unlike human norovirus, mouse norovirus can be cultured and replicates well in mice. Therefore, mouse norovirus serves as a model virus for understanding the biological characteristics of noroviruses, host-virus interactions, and antibody neutralization mechanisms.
