Description: Influenza A virus nucleoprotein NP is the most abundant structural protein in the viral particle and is the main protein used to distinguish it from influenza B virus. Therefore, antibodies targeting the NP proteins of both influenza A and B viruses can differentiate between these two types of viruses. Within the virus, the viral genome attaches to the NP protein and forms a ribonucleoprotein complex with other polymerase protein subunits within the virus, participating in viral transcription and replication processes. NP can stimulate the host to produce type-specific antibodies and has many T cell epitopes.
