Description:
Interleukin-4 (IL-4) is a cytokine secreted by type II helper T cells (Th2 cells). The biological effects of IL-4 include stimulating the proliferation of activated B cells and T cells, and the differentiation of cd4+t cells into type II helper T cells It also plays a key role in regulating humoral immunity and adaptive immunity. Interleukin-4 induces B cell antibody class switching to IgE and upregulates the production of type II major tissue compatibility complex. This factor was jointly discovered by M. Howard, W. Paul and E. Vitetta in 1982. Four years later, the nucleotide sequence of human interleukin-4 was isolated, which confirmed that it was similar to a mouse protein B cell stimulating factor-1 (bcsf-1).
