Description: Human interleukin 2 (IL-2), also known as T-cell growth factor, is a cytokine that plays a crucial role in the immune response. It is produced by activated T cells and natural killer (NK) cells in response to foreign antigens or mitogens. IL-2 is part of the interleukin-2 family, which includes interleukin-2, interleukin-7, and interleukin-15. IL-2 is involved in the activation, proliferation, and differentiation of T cells, as well as the activation of NK cells and B cells. It binds to specific receptors on the surface of these immune cells, triggering a signaling cascade that leads to their activation and proliferation. IL-2 also has anti-apoptotic effects, preventing the programmed cell death of activated immune cells.
