Description: CD36, also known as platelet glycoprotein 4, is a protein molecule distributed on theCD36, also known as platelet glycoprotein 4, is a protein molecule distributed on the surface of various cells in mammals and has multiple physiological functions. CD36 is an important fatty acid transporter (FAT) involved in fatty acid metabolism in tissues, mediating the uptake of fatty acids by these tissues. Given that the oxidative metabolism of fatty acids is closely related to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, many studies have begun to focus on the role of FAT/CD36 in insulin resistance. Skeletal muscle mainly takes up and oxidizes fatty acids through CD36 on the cell surface to provide energy for muscle contraction, while adipose tissue stores and stores the taken-up fatty acids through it for energy needs. Recent studies suggest that CD36 is associated with atherosclerosis.
