Description: Feline coronavirus (FCoV) is a common viral pathogen that infects cats. Most infections with FCoV are asymptomatic, but some strains of the virus, known as Feline Infectious Peritonitis Viruses (FIPV), can lead to a fatal systemic disease called feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). Currently, there are no approved treatments for FIP, but researchers have been exploring various compounds with the hope of developing therapeutic options. One important aspect of this research is the potential broader effect of these molecules on different coronaviruses. With the ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, the development of antivirals is an urgent need, and FIP could serve as a valuable model to aid in this area of research.
