Description: The insulin-like growth factor (IGF) signaling pathway is an evolution conserved pathway that plays an important role in regulating embryonic growth and differentiation, maintaining adult homeostasis, and participating in the aging process of organisms as well as the occurrence of various diseases. IGF binding protein 4 (IGFBP-4) is an important component of the IGF signaling system. IGFBP-4 has the ability to transport ligands IGF-I and IGF-II and can regulate the biological functions of these two proteins. Both in vivo and in vitro, IGFBP-4 can inhibit GFS-induced cell growth. At the same time, IGFBP-4 also has functions independent of IGFS. The different expression levels of IGFBP-4 in most tumor cells compared to normal cells suggest that IGFBP-4 is involved in the occurrence and development of tumors. In addition, many studies have shown that IGFBP-4 is related to reproduction and preterm birth.
